Another weekend, another sail. This time Angela and Stefan came to visit, together with their new adorable little puppy Dolly of just 12 weeks old.
The forecast said there were going to be strong winds and rain on Sunday so we decided to stay nearby and not adventure and go very far, which was good because it really rained a lot on Sunday and it would have been a nighmare to sail back from anywhere, had we gone.
Saturday was a lot of fun and full of adventure; the day started with a breakfast made of delicious cheese pastry that Stefan cooked and with motoring to Cawsand bay where we anchored and went snorkling, with dinghy, outboard and wet suits n’all!
The highlight of the day came a bit later when in good tradition, something had to happen; while trying to leave our anchorage and do a bit of sailing the engine just wouldn’t start; no ignition, whatsoever. This would have been fun had we not been expecting a force 8 for the next day, so something had to be done, if nothing else, we’d have to go back under sail only and call for a rescue tow. So I called David, who called Mike, who called me back and was a life saviour by guiding me through an ignition shortcut procedure on a diesel engine which involved a big screwdriver, lots of sparks and eventually a running engine once again. Thank you Mike!
We then sailed back to Plymouth with the engine running but in neutral so that we could feel the power of the wind, trying all points of sail, and ended up mooring beautifully back in Sutton Harbour.
The day ended with delicious Hunter’s Chicken cooked by Stefan and of course, plenty of wine.
Thank you for coming! Thank you Angela for the pictures! The Witch is definitely going to miss these Weekends now that winter is coming!
